DIMAPUR — International Widows' Day was observed in Shamator on Tuesday.
The event was organised by Mission Shakti under the Department of Social Welfare, Shamator, with Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Shamator Arikumba attending as the special guest, according to a DIPR report.
In his speech, the DC expressed that the day is celebrated not only to share the grievances, struggles, challenges, and hardship faced by widows, but also to acknowledge their strength, resilience, and positive contributions to society.
He urged the gathering not to lose hope but to remain positive and strong, continuously contributing by standing side by side with the rest of society.
He added that widows must become economically empowered to take care of their entire family, which would help in securing their family's needs and educating their children.
District Programme Officer Renchano Odyuo appealed to all widows to always remain strong with a positive attitude, assuring them that they are not left alone and that the department will always support them in times of need.
