International University Nagaland celebrates World Laboratory Day 2026 with student activities and scientific awareness programme.

DIMAPUR — The Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences at the International University Nagaland (IUN), Chümoukedima ,marked World Laboratory Day 2026 with a vibrant and educational programme centred on the theme “A day in the laboratory,” on Thursday
The event aimed to promote scientific awareness and spark interest among school students, particularly those from the science stream, the university stated in a press release.
The event commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Roopam Bachhil, Registrar of the university, who highlighted the importance of such academic initiatives.

Class XII (Science) students from participating schools under Chümoukedima district, including Government Higher Secondary School, Mount Mary Higher Secondary School, North Town Higher Secondary School, and Carmel Higher Secondary School, attended the programme under the guidance of their respective teachers-in-charge.
The celebration featured a range of interactive and intellectually stimulating activities such as a poster-making competition, extempore speech sessions, and an engaging interactive lecture.
A key highlight of the programme was a talk by resource person Nungsangmeren Jamir, microbiologist at the TB Culture & Drug Susceptibility Testing Laboratory, NHAK.
He delivered a lecture titled “Laboratories: Where curiosity becomes discovery,” emphasising the crucial role laboratories play in scientific advancement and innovation.
The event attended graced by distinguished guests, including Prof. (Dr.) Priyaranjan Trivedi, Founder Chancellor; Dr. SN Pandey, Chancellor; and Dr. Utkarsh Sharma, Pro-Chancellor of the university.
The event also included an address by Prof. (Dr.) Zavise Rume, Director (Vocational Studies) at the university, who highlighted the institution’s academic initiatives and commitment to vocational excellence.

Extempore speech: First – Temjenri, second - Kidabenro Y Patton, third -Anito Yeptho
The programme encouraged students to explore scientific ideas, enhance their knowledge, and develop critical thinking skills.
“Through this celebration, the university reaffirmed its dedication to nurturing young scientific minds and fostering a deeper understanding of laboratory sciences among students,” the release stated.
