- DIMAPUR — In the
ongoing Senior Men’s Inter-District Tournament 2025, on Tuesday, Niuland
emerged victorious against Kohima, while Chümoukedima cruised to a 9-wicket
victory over Mon.
- According to an update, in the first match played at Nagaland
Cricket Association Stadium, Chümoukedima, Niuland won by 5 wickets after a
well-rounded performance, chasing down Kohima's target of 93 runs.
- Kohima faced an early setback, struggling to build a strong
partnership throughout their inning. They were bowled out for a modest total of
92 runs in 25.2 overs. The inning was dominated by their top scorer, Anga
Shuya, who made 27 runs off 38 balls, supported by Tapito Thupitopr, who
contributed 24 runs off 31 balls.
- However, the inning was ultimately derailed by a stellar
performance from Akavi A Yeptho of Niuland. He displayed exceptional bowling
skills, taking 5 wickets for 25 runs in his 9 overs, ensuring Kohima's
collapse.
- Niuland chased down the target of 93 runs in 18.3 overs,
losing 5 wickets in the process. Despite a steady start, they had a few
hiccups, but the chase was kept on track thanks to contributions from Afzal
Choudhury (26 off 50 balls) and Sujal Prasad Thakur (24 off 22 balls), both of
whom played important knocks.
- Niuland's bowlers, particularly Sepichem Jingru and
Kelhousilie, had a strong impact with the ball, but the target was manageable,
and Niuland clinched victory with 5 wickets to spare.
- Akavi A Yeptho was named Player of the Match for his
outstanding bowling performance.
- In the second match at Sovima Cricket Ground, Chümoukedima,
Mon's batting struggled against a strong Chümoukedima bowling attack. They were
dismissed for 123 runs in 43.0 overs. Santosh was the standout performer with
the bat, remaining unbeaten on 56 of 61 balls and anchoring the inning.
- However, Mon's total was largely built around his lone
effort, with the rest of the batters failing to convert starts.
