Infected, surveillance zones declared in Longleng following ASF outbreak

DIMAPUR — The Deputy Commissioner of Longleng, W Manpai Phom, has declared containment measures following the confirmation of African Swine Fever (ASF) cases in Pongching and Hamlikhong villages under Longleng district.


According to a DIPR report, Phom has notified that, in pursuance of the report submitted by the Office of the Chief Veterinary Officer, Longleng areas have been designated as infected zones and surveillance zones for the purpose of controlling and containing the ASF outbreak.

The infected zone area includes Pongching and Hamlikhong villages, extending within a 1 km radius of the infected premises. The surveillance zone covers an extent of a 10 km radius from the infected premises, with a 9 km radius outside the infected zone.


In this regard, the following restrictions are to be strictly adhered to in the aforementioned locations until further order: a ban on the slaughter of pigs; a ban on the import and export of pigs and piglets; and a ban on the transportation of pigs and pork.


It stated that this order has been issued in the interest of public health and safety to prevent the spread of the disease.
