  • Several landslides were reported in Ukhrul, a hill district in Manipur, following incessant rains.


  • IMPHAL — Incessant rains lashing Manipur since Wednesday resulted in waterlogged roads, causing inconvenience to the public.

  • Several low-lying areas and major roads in the state capital were inundated with rainwater, disrupting normal life. Many residents stayed indoors due to the inclement weather.

  • Sengmai River overflowed in Kakching's Keirak area, while landslides were reported in Ukhrul district, near the DC Bungalow, due to heavy rainfall.

  • The water level of most of the rivers in the hill districts have also risen due to heavy rainfall since May 28. However, there was no report of any major incidents till the filling of this report.

  • The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted that Manipur, among some NE states, is expected to witness heavy rainfall in the southern part of the state on Thursday.

  • According to the Imphal Meteorological Centre, southern Manipur districts, including Chandel, Churachandpur, and Pherzawl, along with parts of Kakching and Thoubal, are expected to experience heavy rainfall with strong winds. Manipur's monsoon season began on May 25.

  • Moreh, a border town 110 km south of Imphal, recorded the highest rainfall in Manipur today, with 102 mm, followed by Kamjong (96 mm), Chandel (76 mm), and Ukhrul (60.8 mm), according to the IMD's Imphal centre.

  • According to the Directorate of Environment and Climate Change, Tengnoupal district received the highest rainfall on May 28 with 30.8 mm, followed by Imphal West district with 27.2 mm.

  • It may be mentioned that Manipur had already experienced three flood episodes since Cyclone Remal hit the region in late May last year.

  • MoS Malhotra reviews highway projects

  • Union Minister of State for Road, Transport & Highways and Corporate Affairs, Harsh Malhotra, who is on a three-day visit to Manipur to review various developmental projects, visited Imphal-Kohima section of the National Highway 2 (NH-2) on Thursday.

  • Sharing photographs of the visit to National Highway on X, Malhotra wrote, “Reviewed the Imphal-Kohima section of NH-02 along with NHIDCL officials at Kanglatongbi village in Kangpokpi, Manipur.”

  • “The 97 km Imphal-Kohima Section is likely to be completed by December 2026,” the minister added.

  • The construction of the said section of the NH-2 was undertaken by the National Highway Infrastructure and Development Corporation Ltd. (NHIDCL).

  • Prior to visiting Kanglatongbi areas, the Union minister also visited Shree Shree Govindajee temple in Imphal.
