Improper Waste Disposal and Lack of Waste Segregation Practices

(Letter to Chairperson, Dimapur Municipal Council)

Respected Sir,

I am writing to you to draw your attention to the growing problem of improper waste disposal in our locality. Many residents dispose of their household waste on roadsides and in open spaces. Furthermore, there is no proper system for segregating biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste. As a result, "garbage" accumulates rapidly, resulting in overflowing bins and unhygienic conditions across multiple areas.

The overflowing waste emits foul odours, attracting flies, mosquitoes and stray animals and posing serious health risks to residents. During the rainy season, the garbage also blocks drains, leading to waterlogging and increasing the risk of disease outbreaks.

I would like to suggest a few measures to address this issue:

- Provide separate bins for biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste in all residential areas.

- Organize periodic cleanliness drives with the participation of local residents and community organizations.

- Ensure regular collection and transportation of waste by municipal waders.

- Implement optical sorting facilities where recyclables go to automated centres using optical lasers and Al to separate plastics by chemical compound.

- Sort food waste automatically and channel into dedicated facilities that convert 97% of it into fertilizer and animal feed.

I would be grateful if you could look into this matter at the earliest and take necessary steps to implement the suggestions mentioned above.
