- IMPHAL — The
Manipur government has announced the reopening of all government,
government-aided, and private schools in Imphal East district from June 12,
following a period of closure due to recent flooding.
- The announcement was made through an official order issued
by the Deputy Commissioner of Imphal East, Dr. Nivedita Lairenlakpam, on
Wednesday. The order came after a field enquiry report submitted by the Zonal
Education Officer, Zone-II, Porompat, assessed the situation as suitable for resuming
academic activities.
- “Based on the field enquiry report...it is hereby informed
to all concerned that all government, government-aided, and private schools in
Imphal East district shall reopen and resume normal functioning with effect
from 12th June, 2025,” stated the order.

- It also directed all zonal education officers, principals,
and headmasters to take necessary precautionary measures and ensure smooth and
safe reopening of schools.
- Earlier, on June 1, the state government had extended the
summer holidays for schools in Imphal East, Imphal West, and Senapati
subdivision of Senapati district “until further orders” due to the impact of
widespread flooding.
- However, the same order by Secretary (Education-Schools), N
Praveen Singh, had also delegated the authority to individual Deputy
Commissioners to assess and decide on school closures or reopening based on
local conditions, with prior intimation to the state government.
- The recent floods in Manipur have affected nearly 1.66 lakh
people, damaged over 35,000 houses, and impacted 76 public infrastructures
across 708 localities. Tragically, the disaster also claimed four lives,
including three children.
