KOHIMA — Nagaland is likely to experience extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places on August 1 and 2, according to a weather bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday.
The IMD forecasted that a fresh spell of heavy to very heavy rainfall will affect Northeast India from August 1 to 3. It warned that extremely heavy rainfall—defined as more than 204 mm—is very likely over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on August 1 and 2.
In the lead-up to this, light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning, along with isolated heavy to very heavy showers, is expected to continue across Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya from July 27 to August 2.

With Nagaland among the states likely to be affected, the IMD has issued a caution on potential impacts. These include: flooding of roads and waterlogging in low-lying and urban areas; temporary closure of underpasses; reduced visibility; damage to roads, landslides and mudslides; and possible damage to horticultural crops.
As precautionary measures, the IMD has advised residents to avoid waterlogged and landslide-prone areas, follow traffic advisories, refrain from staying in vulnerable structures, and prepare for potential traffic congestion.
