ICFAI University hosts gardening workshop

  • DIMAPUR — The Green Club of ICFAI University Nagaland, in collaboration with the university’s IQAC, organised a 3-hour workshop on the basics of gardening on March 26. According to an update, resource persons for the workshop, Retongkokla, assistant professor (Education), and Osangnok Imchen, assistant professor (Linguistics), both from ICFAI University Nagaland, demonstrated the use of tools, discussed supplements for plants such as manure and coco peat for water retention, and taught potting and repotting techniques. The students attending the workshop learnt about soil quantities, manure, and coco peat mixtures, tackling pest infestations, and pruning.

  • Indian Red Cross Society Niuland branch launched

  • DIMAPUR — The formal launching programme of the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Niuland branch, was held at the DC conference hall, Niuland, on Thursday. According to an update, addressing the programme as the special guest, Akhale V Khamo, General Secretary of IRCSN, highlighted the history and principles of the Red Cross Society and the activities being carried out by the organisation to provide relief to those in distress and called upon everyone present to volunteer for this renowned voluntary organisation, which strives to promote peace, hope, and humanitarian values in society. The DC and president of IRCS, Niuland Branch, Sara S Jamir, in her address, thanked the IRCS Nagaland branch for recognising the need to set up a Red Cross branch in Niuland, noting that it will go a long way in providing assistance to those in need, transcending all race, religion, tribe, etc., in the district.

  • Governor to inaugurate library at International University

  • DIMAPUR — The central library of the International University, Nagaland (formerly The Global Open University, Nagaland), will be inaugurated by Governor La Ganesan on March 31 at 11 am. According to an update, Ganesan has consented to inaugurate the “Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar Central Library” at its main campus near 7th Mile. The main objective behind this inauguration, on the eve of the 136th birth anniversary of Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar, is to enable every student and other visitors to this central library to acquire expert knowledge of the ideals shown by him, such as remaining honest, hard-working, merciful, tolerant, and dedicated towards the optimum development of the area and the state where they were born and raised. The goal is to address problems related to poverty, greed, unemployment, pollution, a faulty educational system, and the lack of maintaining traditional culture.

  • DIMAPUR — Elumyo Village Wopong Tsanglao Motsu-rüi Ekhung has scheduled a general meeting cum picnic on April 26, 2025, at 8 am at Elumyo village. In a press statement, W Yimzuthung Tsanglao, secretary of Wopong Tsanglao Motsu-rüi Ekhung, requested all clan members to attend the meeting without fail.

  • CEO calls state-level meeting with political parties

  • DIMAPUR — The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Nagaland, Vyasan R, has informed that a state-level meeting with all political parties has been convened to deliberate on any election-related issues. According to a DIPR report, the meeting will be held on March 28 at 12 noon in the office chamber of the Home Commissioner, Nagaland, at the Nagaland Civil Secretariat, Kohima. All political parties are requested to depute a representative to participate in the meeting.

  • Two-day health camp held at Thonoknyu PHC

  • DIMAPUR — A two-day multi-speciality health camp was organised at the Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Thonoknyu sub-division, Noklak district, on March 26 and 27. The camp was led by Dr. Tseilhoutuo Rhutso (MLA) from Kohima. According to a DIPR report, during the camp, hundreds of residents from surrounding areas benefitted from free medical consultations and medicines provided by specialist doctors.

  • Plastic Waste Management Unit launched in Tseminyu

  • DIMAPUR — The Public Health Engineering Department, Kohima Rural Division, organised an inaugural programme for the Plastic Waste Management Unit at Chunlikha village, Tseminyu, on Thursday. According to a DIPR report, the unit was inaugurated by Kikumsangla Jamir, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Tseminyu. On the occasion, Jamir emphasised the urgent need for environmental responsibility, stating that the environment is facing severe destruction and immediate action is required to protect it for future generations. She also urged the village council, WATSAN committees, GBs, and other stakeholders to actively participate in waste reduction efforts by adopting sustainable behavioural changes. Additionally, she encouraged village leaders to take ownership of government assets installed in their villages and across the block to ensure proper maintenance and longevity.

  • Two-day ASHA training held in Dimapur

  • DIMAPUR — A two-day training for ASHAs under NUHM was held at the conference hall, office of the Chief Medical Officer, from March 26 to the 27th. According to an update, during the training, ASHAs were re-oriented on maternal health, child health, oral health, the U-WIN mobiliser module, Anaemia Mukht Bharat, the role of ASHAs in RI micro-planning and conducting UHNDs, as well as the maintenance of ASHA registers and records. Resource persons for the training included Dr. Mero, WHO (RRT); Sentirenla, consultant NUHM; Watisenla Jamir, DCM; Achila Chang, VCCM; Tsuknungsangla Jamir, BPM; and Nukshiwati, consultant NTCP. The training was attended by the urban ASHAs of Mokokchung district.
