International Conference on Chemistry in Multidisciplinary Research (ICCMR–2026) begins at Nagaland University Lumami with experts stressing innovation and multidisciplinary research.

DIMAPUR — The inaugural session of the three-day International Conference on Chemistry in Multidisciplinary Research (ICCMR–2026), organised by the Department of Chemistry, Nagaland University, was held on Wednesday at I Ihoshe Kinimi Hall, Lumami.
In a press release, the university stated that Prof. Dr. GD Yadav, the chief guest of the inaugural event, spoke on the theme “Think of some innovations.”
He suggested replacing the semester system with a trimester system to enhance academic effectiveness.
Prof. Yadav further emphasised that girls’ education should be free up to the PhD level, besides proposing construction of special buildings for retirees so that they could run mentorship programmes and continue guiding young scholars.
Guests of honour, Prof. Virendra M Tiwari and Prof. Mohammad Mobin, also addressed the gathering.
Prof. Tiwari spoke about the rich diversity of Nagaland and emphasised the role of multidisciplinary approaches in solving global problems. Prof. Mobin expressed gratitude to the vice-chancellor and the organising team and highlighted how the conference provides valuable learning opportunities for students. He also introduced the “Design your degree programme.”

Chaired by Prof. Ambrish Singh, HoD, Department of Chemistry, the introductory address was delivered by Dr. M Indira Devi, Department of Chemistry, who presented an overview of the department.
In a message, Prof. JK Patnaik, Vice-Chancellor of Nagaland University, highlighted the significant contributions of academic institutions to the scientific field, while also dwelling on the initiatives being undertaken to promote research and innovation in the university.
Prof. B Kilangla Jamir, Vice-Chancellor in-charge, emphasised the existing gap between science and society and stated that economic growth alone cannot provide sustainable solutions.
She urged the adoption of multidisciplinary approaches and encouraged young minds to draw inspiration from the platform.
The Registrar of Nagaland University, Dr. Abemo, remarked that the programme marks another important milestone for the university.
Prof. Dipak Sinha, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Medziphema campus, Nagaland University, highlighted the transition of the conference from an interdisciplinary to a multidisciplinary platform and encouraged students to actively interact with the delegates.
Following the release of the abstract book by the chief guest and other dignitaries, Prof. Santosh K Singh, Dean, School of Science, Nagaland University, spoke on the importance of multidisciplinary approaches in the modern world, particularly in addressing issues such as climate change and poverty.
Lifetime Achievement Awards were presented to distinguished personalities during the inaugural programme.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. I Tovishe Phucho, Department of Chemistry.
Earlier in the programme, the students presented a special cultural performance.
