ICAR-NRCM hosts mithun mela in Arunachal Pradesh

Officials of ICAR-National Research Centre on Mithun and participants during the mithun mela-cum-farmers scientist interaction in Arunachal Pradesh.


  • DIMAPUR — The ICAR-National Research Centre on Mithun (ICAR-NRCM) in Medziphema, Nagaland, with support of AHVDD, GoAP successfully organised a mithun mela-cum-farmers scientist interaction and technology injection programme for scientific mithun husbandry at Upper Jumi village in Kimin circle, Papum Pare district, Arunachal Pradesh.

  • The day-long event commenced with a mithun vaccination and health camp, followed by the arrival of dignitaries and a visit to the ICAR-NRCM exhibition stall.

  • An update from ICAR-NRCM stated that key inputs and resources were distributed to mithun farmers as part of the outreach initiative.

  • Dr. Girish Patil S, director of ICAR-NRCM, presented the institute’s ongoing efforts in mithun research and development, while Dr. Danjan Longri, director of Animal Husbandry, Veterinary and Dairy Development, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, highlighted the department’s role in promoting mithun husbandry in the state.

  • Distinguished guests including Bamang Yayu, ZPM-III, Kimin; Dr. AK Tyagi, ADG (ANP), ICAR HQ; Prof. (Dr) MR Saseendranath, chairman of RAC, ICAR-NRCM; and Nabam Vivek, HMLA of 14th Doimukh A/C, addressed the gathering and emphasised the importance of sustainable mithun farming practices.

  • The afternoon session featured technical talks from experts on various aspects of mithun husbandry including health, nutrition, breeding, parasitic disease control, and income enhancement strategies.

  • Prominent speakers included Dr. S Pan, Dr. AK Sangwan, Dr. Nazrul Haque, Dr. Reena Arora and Dr. RB Sharma.

  • The programme concluded with an engaging farmer-scientist interaction session, where progressive farmers like Sambu Siongju voiced challenges and opportunities in mithun production.
