A farmer training programme on planting, care and post-harvest management of fruit trees organised by ICAR-AICRP on Fruits was held at Socünoma village.
DIMAPUR — The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)-All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on Fruits, Department of Horticulture, School of Agricultural Sciences, Nagaland University, Medziphema Campus, organised a farmer training programme on "Planting, care and post-harvest management of fruit trees" under the North Eastern Hill (NEH) programme at Socünoma village in the Chümoukedima district on July 22.
According to an update, the training programme was conducted by Junior Horticulturist Dr. Alemla Imchen and Technical Assistant Dr. Bendangsenla from ICAR-AICRP on Fruits, who delivered technical lectures and practical demonstrations on scientific fruit cultivation practices.
Dr. Imchen presented a session on litchi cultivation, focusing on planting, care, and maintenance before and after harvest. The session covered orchard management practices, including mulching, girdling, fruit bagging, pest monitoring, whitewashing, pollinator management, intercropping, harvesting, pre-cooling, and orchard sanitation, supported by photographic illustrations.

Dr. Bendangsenla conducted an interactive discussion on pest and disease management, addressing issues faced by farmers in their orchards. She also examined disease samples brought by participants and recommended suitable organic management practices.
The programme was attended by 30 farmers who participated in the discussions and practical sessions. Farm tools and implements were distributed to selected farmers at the conclusion of the programme.
