President Murmu may attend Hornbill Festival 2026 as Nagaland plans to lease Kisama under PPP for year-round tourism
KOHIMA — President of India Droupadi Murmu is likely to attend the 27th Hornbill Festival, scheduled to be held later this year at Naga Heritage Village, Kisama, according to Tourism department.
With about four months remaining before the annual festival, the state government is preparing various initiatives to attract visitors and dignitaries from across the country and abroad and make this year’s edition a memorable one.
The festival is expected to draw thousands of visitors, as well as national and international guests, as Nagaland continues to position the event as a major tourism attraction.

Kisama to be leased under PPP
Meanwhile, the state Cabinet, at its meeting held at Doyang in Wokha on August 6, decided to lease Naga Heritage Village, Kisama, under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode.
Confirming the decision, government spokesperson and Minister for Tourism and Higher Education Temjen Imna Along said the move was aimed at promoting tourism activities at the heritage village throughout the year.
He said the site would be leased for activities throughout the year, except during the Hornbill Festival.
According to the minister, the Department of Tourism is currently working out the modalities for the lease, with an open bidding process expected to begin in September for interested parties.
