DIMAPUR — The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has issued a weather alert forecasting thunderstorms, lightning and rainfall across the state from September 11 to the 14th.
According to the advisory, districts including Chumoukedima, Kiphire, Kohima, Mokokchung, Phek, Shamator, Tuensang, Wokha and Zunheboto are expected to witness heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. Other parts of the state will receive light to moderate showers.
It cautioned that lowland and foothill areas such as Dimapur, Niuland, Chumoukedima, Bhandari, Baghty, Tizit and Tuli are vulnerable to flash floods and waterlogging due to heavy precipitation in the hills.

The NSDMA advised citizens to take precautionary measures, including safeguarding important documents, evacuating low-lying areas when directed, avoiding contact with floodwaters, boiling or treating drinking water, disconnecting electrical appliances, and remaining alert to open drains and flood channels.
All district disaster management authorities and line departments have been asked to remain on high alert. For emergencies, citizens may contact the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) at the toll-free number 1070.
