DIMAPUR — Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has issued yet another warning of thunderstorms, lightning, and heavy rainfall in several districts of the state from September 20 to 22.
In a weather advisory, the NSDMA informed that most parts of Nagaland will experience moderate rain accompanied by localised thunderstorms and lightning during the period.
However, the districts of Kohima, Peren and Zunheboto are expected to witness heavy rain on September 21 and 22.
It cautioned that heavy precipitation in the hill sectors could trigger flooding in the lowland and foothill areas, including Dimapur, Niuland, Chümoukedima, Bhandari, Baghty, Tizit and Tuli.

These districts are particularly vulnerable to waterlogging and flash floods, the advisory stated.
Residents in flood-prone areas have been urged to safeguard important documents and valuables, remain prepared for possible evacuation if advised, and avoid entering or driving through floodwaters.
The NSDMA also recommended that electrical appliances be kept off the ground, and that drinking water be boiled or treated with chlorine during this period.
For the hilly districts, the NSDMA cautioned residents to remain vigilant for possible landslides. Warning signs may include unusual sounds such as cracking trees, rolling boulders or sudden changes in stream volume from clear to muddy water.
People have been advised to stay out of potential landslide paths and exercise extra caution during heavy and continuous rainfall.
It urged the public to remain alert and take necessary precautions to prevent loss of life or property. It also directed all district disaster management authorities and line departments to stay on high alert during the ongoing monsoon season.
For emergencies, the public may contact the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) through its toll-free number 1070, the disaster management emergency response number 112, or at 0370-2291120/0370-2291122.
