Zunheboto Government College and Zunheboto Forest Division launch a Green Campus Initiative pilot project under ComSR.
DIMAPUR — The Green Campus Initiative, a pilot project under the Community Social Responsibility (ComSR) model, was launched at Zunheboto Government College on Wednesday.
Jointly organised by Zunheboto Government College and the Zunheboto Forest Division, the initiative focuses on environmental sustainability, community participation, and conservation.
According to an update, Divisional Forest Officer of the Zunheboto Forest Division Obed Bohovi Swu, in his introductory remarks, pointed out the importance of community participation in addressing local issues.
He stated that government assistance alone cannot solve every challenge and that communities must take collective responsibility. He noted that the programme would help create a greener campus, improve the institution's image, and allow students and faculty to embrace environmental conservation.

Launching the initiative, Deputy Commissioner of Zunheboto Dharam Raj described it as an innovative programme. He stated that the initiative should be viewed through a holistic approach and not merely as an effort to increase forest cover, adding that conservation and development must go hand in hand.
Citing the Chipko Movement as an example, the deputy commissioner noted that tribal communities have traditionally understood the value of forests and have been at the forefront of protecting them. He further stressed the need to minimise energy consumption and adopt sustainable lifestyles.
