The Gorkha Public Panchayat Kohima has condemned the alleged sexual assault of a minor girl in Medziphema.
DIMAPUR — The Gorkha Public Panchayat Kohima (GPPK) has expressed deep shock and condemned the alleged sexual assault of a minor girl reportedly committed at Medziphema town on July 7.
In a statement, the panchayat stated that the crime, which reportedly took place within the victim's own residence, is deeply disturbing and constitutes a grave violation of the rights and dignity of a child.
The GPPK stood in solidarity with the survivor and her family, offering prayers for her physical, emotional, and psychological recovery.
The organisation urged the investigating authorities to ensure a prompt, impartial, transparent, and thorough investigation to bring the perpetrator to justice under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, and other applicable laws.

“We also appeal to all citizens, community organisations, and institutions to remain vigilant, strengthen child protection measures, and actively support efforts to prevent crimes against children,” it read.
The panchayat reiterated its commitment to child protection and expressed appreciation to individuals, community leaders and civil society organisations for standing in solidarity with the family.
