DIMAPUR — Governor of Nagaland Nand Kishore Yadav held a review meeting with the Department of Social Welfare at the Naga Bhavan conference hall, Lok Bhavan, Kohima on Monday.
During the meeting, Director Social Welfare, Tosheli Zhimomi, presented a comprehensive overview of key programmes and initiatives being implemented across the state, the PRO Lok Bhavan stated in a press release.
The presentation highlighted major schemes under the Ministry of Women and Child Development, including Saksham Anganwadi & Poshan 2.0, Mission Vatsalya, and Mission Shakti, with a focus on nutrition, child protection, and women’s empowerment.
The meeting also reviewed initiatives under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and the Ministry of Rural Development, covering programmes for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups.
Progress in child protection mechanisms, including Child Welfare Committees, Juvenile Justice Boards, and Child Helpline services, was discussed in detail.
The governor appreciated the efforts of the department in implementing welfare schemes and reaching beneficiaries across the state.
Yadav emphasised the need to further strengthen implementation, enhance public awareness, and improve inter-departmental coordination to ensure effective delivery of services.
Issues concerning Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), he suggested organising block-wise and village-level camps in coordination with the Health & Family Welfare department for the issuance of disability certificates, enabling eligible individuals to access government benefits.
Nagaland gears up for monsoon season
The governor also chaired a review meeting on monsoon preparedness at Lok Bhavan on Monday.
During the meeting, Home Commissioner Abhijit Sinha presented a detailed overview of the monsoon outlook for 2026.
It was highlighted that while India may experience below-normal rainfall due to likely El Niño conditions, Nagaland is expected to receive normal to above-normal rainfall with intense and uneven distribution.
The presentation outlined key risks including flash floods, landslides and erratic rainfall patterns. Departments also shared district-wise preparedness plans, including the establishment of control rooms, deployment of machinery, and identification of vulnerable road stretches.
The Public Works Department (PWD) informed that all National Highways and major roads are being closely monitored, with alternative routes identified to ensure connectivity during emergencies.
Maintenance works such as drainage clearance, slope stabilisation and pre-positioning of resources are being undertaken across divisions.
The Kohima district administration presented its action plan, including constitution of task forces, traffic management strategies, medical preparedness and ensuring adequate supply of essential commodities during the monsoon season.
The governor emphasised the need for coordinated efforts among all departments, timely response to emergencies and effective dissemination of information to the public.
Yadav directed all concerned agencies to remain vigilant and ensure that necessary measures are in place to minimise disruption during the monsoon.
Senior officials from NSDMA, PWD, NHIDCL, district administration and SEWAK attended the meeting.
