Nand Kishore Yadav calls for inclusive development, better infrastructure and greater opportunities in eastern Nagaland.
Yadav highlights infrastructure, livelihoods, youth empowerment and cultural preservation during district visits

DIMAPUR — Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav on Thursday called for collective efforts towards inclusive development, improved infrastructure and greater opportunities for the people of eastern Nagaland, during his visits to Tuensang and Longleng districts.
Interacting with district officials, civil society organisations and community representatives in Tuensang, Yadav described the February 5, 2026 agreement between the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO), Government of India and Government of Nagaland concerning the Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority as an important milestone for the region.
He said the agreement reflected the importance of dialogue, mutual understanding and democratic engagement in addressing the aspirations and developmental needs of the people.
He expressed hope that the development would open new avenues for inclusive growth, stronger institutions, improved infrastructure and greater opportunities, while ushering in a new era of peace, cooperation and prosperity and preserving the unity and integrity of Nagaland.
The Governor said his district visits were aimed at strengthening the connection between constitutional institutions and people at the grassroots level.
He noted that Tuensang has significant potential in agriculture, horticulture, handloom, handicrafts, tourism, education and entrepreneurship.
He stressed that youths must remain at the centre of development, saying they need access to skills, technology, education and opportunities to pursue their aspirations.
He also emphasised that development must go hand in hand with preservation of cultural heritage, traditions, languages, customs, music and community institutions.
Yadav appreciated the efforts of the district administration, security forces, churches, civil society organisations, community leaders and other stakeholders in maintaining peace and promoting development. He called for greater cooperation between the Government and the people to ensure good governance and equitable development.
In Longleng, the Governor similarly emphasised the need to strengthen infrastructure and improve access to essential services, particularly in remote and underserved areas.
He said the district has considerable potential in agriculture, horticulture, handloom and handicrafts, forest-based livelihoods, tourism and entrepreneurship.
Encouraging farmers and young entrepreneurs, Yadav called for greater emphasis on value addition, food processing, digital marketing and modern agricultural practices to help local products reach wider markets.
He said Longleng’s natural beauty and cultural heritage, particularly that of the Phom community, offered significant potential for responsible and community-based tourism.
Better connectivity, hospitality infrastructure and effective promotion, he said, could generate employment and create new livelihood opportunities.
The Governor also urged stakeholders to make Longleng a model of community-led development in Eastern Nagaland by promoting market-oriented agriculture and horticulture, traditional products and youth entrepreneurship.
He stressed that cultural heritage should be regarded as a foundation for sustainable development rather than an obstacle to modernisation.
President of the Phom People’s Council YB Angam Phom highlighted poor road connectivity and inadequate market access as major challenges facing Longleng, noting that landslides and other natural disasters frequently disrupt connectivity between the district headquarters, villages and neighbouring towns.
He also appealed for improved road infrastructure and economic development, pointing out that Longleng serves as a key connecting point for several districts of Eastern Nagaland.
He sought intervention for the timely completion of the district hospital and the Lighthouse (Nectar) project, which he said would benefit the people and students.
Advisor for Airways and Railways A Pongshi Phom welcomed the Governor and acknowledged the welfare initiatives of the governments at the Centre and state.
He said government officials, civil society organisations and the public were working together towards peace and development.
During the two programmes, departmental presentations were made on health and family welfare and rural development in Tuensang, and PWD (R&B), agriculture and allied sectors and medical services in Longleng.
The Governor was accompanied by Commissioner and Secretary to the Governor Thavaseelam K, Joint Secretary to the Governor Firhesie Nyuwi, and other officials and dignitaries.
