A central Post Disaster Needs Assessment team visits Mokokchung, Longleng, Mon, and Tuensang to assess disaster damage across Nagaland.
DIMAPUR/MOKOKCHUNG — A central Post Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA) team from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) visited multiple districts in Nagaland to assist line departments in assessing damage caused by the monsoon.

Mokokchung: In Mokokchung district, the team held a meeting with officials from various line departments at the deputy commissioner’s (DC) conference hall on October 6 as part of the ongoing statewide PDNA exercise.
The visit was aimed at supporting the departments in compiling and assessing the district’s PDNA data.
Lead Consultant (Coordinator, National Resource Centre for Civil Protection), NDMA, Shashank Mishra informed the officials that maintaining accurate records of damage is essential for effective recovery and reconstruction. He urged them to carefully document the severity of the disaster to determine the full extent of the losses.
The Mokokchung District Disaster Management Authority presented a video documentation of the damage caused by the recent monsoon, which claimed lives and destroyed property across the district. This was followed by a group discussion involving sector experts and the concerned line departments. The compiled damage and loss assessment reports were then submitted to the central PDNA team.
Later, the team visited Penli Ward in Mokokchung, the site of a landslide on July 29 that claimed the lives of two students.

Longleng: In Longleng, the central team met with all line departments under DDMA Longleng at the DPDB hall on Wednesday in connection with the ongoing assessment undertaken in Nagaland.
DC and Chairman of DDMA Longleng, W Manpai Phom, welcomed the team and members and briefed the gathering on the extent of damage caused during the monsoon season, according to a DIPR report.
PWD (R&B) and the Agri-Allied department presented the damage assessment report of roads and fields under Longleng district through a PowerPoint presentation. On behalf of CSOs, the President of PPC, YB Angam Phom, shared the difficulties faced by the district.
The team encouraged the departments to ensure that all actual damage and losses are properly documented to facilitate accurate assessment and effective post-disaster planning. The meeting concluded after a consultative discussion between the team and line departments.
Mon: In the Mon district, the team visited on October 6 to assist line departments in compiling and assessing damage caused by the monsoon.
During a meeting held at the DC’s conference hall in Mon, DC Wennyei Konyak welcomed the team and highlighted the damage caused by the monsoon in the district.
Representatives of various line departments briefed the team on the damage incurred in their respective sectors and submitted reports for assessment.
The team encouraged the concerned departments to document and report all actual damage to facilitate a comprehensive assessment of post-disaster needs.
Tuensang: In Tuensang, the central team visited on October 6 and held an interaction session at the DC conference hall with line departments to view the assessment of damage caused by incessant rainfall in the district.
DC of Tuensang Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa highlighted the damage caused by the monsoon and submitted detailed reports to the visiting team.
The team also visited the landslide area at IOC, Post Office Ward, in Tuensang town.
