Governor Nand Kishore Yadav visits Phek district and hosts Athletics Federation of India delegates at Lok Bhavan, Kohima.

DIMAPUR — Governor of Nagaland, Nand Kishore Yadav, visited Phek district on Wednesday and held an interactive session with civil society organisations (CSOs) and a review meeting with government departments.
He also hosted a cultural programme and official dinner at Lok Bhavan, Kohima, for delegates attending the annual general meeting (AGM) of the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) on April 14.
Visit to understand Phek’s developmental needs
According to a DIPR report, following his reception, in his address at the DC's conference hall, the governor spoke about the rich culture, traditions, and spirit of the people of Phek.
He stated that he would firmly commit to working together with all sections of society, including public representatives, tribal bodies, civil society organisations, and the administration, to build a peaceful, developed, and inclusive society in the state.
He also said that his visit was not only to understand the developmental needs and aspirations of the district but also to strengthen the spirit of cooperation and collective responsibility.

Later, the governor conducted a review meeting with different departments of the district. The Department of Health and Family Welfare, Department of School Education, and Department of Rural Development highlighted their ongoing activities, schemes, and achievements in the district through PowerPoint presentations.
During the interactive session, Yadav commented on the schemes and activities presented by the respective departments and encouraged them to work hard with sincerity for the welfare of the people.
Vezuhu Keyho, president of the Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO), delivered a speech on behalf of the Chakhesang public at the programme.
Earlier, Rhosietho Nguori, Deputy Commissioner of Phek, delivered the welcome address.
Hosts cultural programme for AFI delegates
Meanwhile, welcoming the AFI delegates at Lok Bhavan, Kohima, Yadav described the occasion as historic, noting that it was the first time a national sports federation’s AGM was being held in Nagaland.
He termed it a significant milestone in the state’s sporting journey and a reflection of inclusiveness and national integration, stated an update from Lok Bhawan.
The governor lauded the AFI for bringing the event to the state and acknowledged the leadership of Lalit Kumar Bhanot for his contributions to the development of athletics in the country and the South Asian region.
He also commended Nagaland Athletics, under the leadership of Abu Metha, for their efforts in promoting sports in the state, highlighting the successful hosting of the South Asian Cross-Country Championships and the present AGM as major achievements.
Stressing the sporting potential of Nagaland and the Northeast, the governor stated that the region’s youth have consistently demonstrated talent, discipline, and resilience. He expressed confidence that with enhanced support and opportunities, they can achieve greater success at national and international levels.
The governor further expressed hope that the deliberations of the AGM would lead to meaningful outcomes for the growth of athletics, particularly in emerging regions like the Northeast. He also encouraged other sports federations to adopt similar inclusive approaches.
Abu Metha, Advisor to the Chief Minister of Nagaland, Vice President of the Athletics Federation of India, and President of the Nagaland Athletics Association, in his address, stated that the AGM serves as a vital platform to deliberate on key issues concerning sports administration, athlete development, and the overall upliftment of sports in the country.
He said that the meeting aims to strategise the future roadmap of athletics in India while also reflecting the spirit of national integration and unity. He further highlighted that athletes from Nagaland have performed commendably at the national level and that the Nagaland Athletics Association continues to nurture young talent at the grassroots.
The event featured cultural presentations by the North East Zone Cultural Centre, showcasing the rich traditions of the region.
