La. Ganesan addresses the gathering during the Buddha
Purnima celebration organised by the Tamang Buddhist Association, Kohima, on
Monday.
- DIMAPUR — Buddha
Purnima was observed at the Multi-Utility Hall, Gorkha Public Panchayat,
Chandmari, Kohima, on Monday.
- The event, organised by the Tamang Buddhist Association, Kohima,
commemorated the birth, enlightenment, and Mahaparinirvana of Buddha, with the
Governor of Nagaland, La. Ganesan, as the chief guest.
- According to an update in his speech, the Governor
highlighted the significance of Buddha’s message, stating that Buddha Purnima
was not merely a celebration but a thrice-blessed day marking the birth,
enlightenment, and Mahaparinirvana (final liberation) of Buddha.
- Reflecting on Lord Buddha’s life, from Prince Siddhartha's
renunciation to his enlightenment under the Bodhi tree, the governor emphasised
the importance of self-awareness, compassion, and inner transformation. He
further noted that the Buddha’s teachings of the Four Noble Truths and the
Eightfold Path continued to offer a blueprint for a harmonious and inclusive
world.
- Quoting Buddha’s words, “I own nothing, and I am a nobody.
That is why everything is mine,” the governor said that the message remained
especially relevant in today’s divided world, calling on all to lead with
empathy rather than authority.
