Governor ganesan inaugurates library at International University

  • DIMAPUR — Nagaland Governor La Ganesan on Monday inaugurated the Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar Central Library at International University, Nagaland (formerly known as The Global Open University) in Chümoukedima on the eve of the 136th birth anniversary of Hedgewar.

  • The governor, in his address, said the establishment of this central library in Hedgewar's name was a fitting tribute to his legacy and would serve as a centre of learning and reflection, inspiring students and scholars to delve into the depths of history, philosophy, science, and the humanities while staying rooted in the ethos of our great civilisation.

  • According to him, a well-equipped library encourages intellectual curiosity, fosters innovation, and instils a spirit of lifelong learning, a place where students can broaden their horizons, develop independent thought, and contribute meaningfully to society. Libraries, he remarked, help in manifesting perfection by providing access to a wealth of knowledge and wisdom.

  • This library, he hoped, will serve as a vital resource hub for students, researchers, and faculty members. It will provide access to a vast repository of books, journals, manuscripts, and digital resources, covering a wide range of disciplines.

  • The governor asserted that the International University in Chümoukedima has taken a significant step by dedicating the magnificent centre of learning to a leader who stood for national unity and character-building. This central library, he believed, will not only benefit the students of Nagaland but will also serve as a bridge for intellectual and cultural exchange across India and beyond.

  • “This central library must integrate digital learning tools, online resources, and modern technology to cater to the evolving needs of students and researchers. By embracing technology alongside traditional wisdom, we can create a dynamic learning environment that is not only rooted in our cultural heritage but also aligned with global educational advancements,” he encouraged while noting that this will help prepare future-ready scholars, researchers and leaders who can navigate the challenges of the modern world with confidence and competence.

  • He reminded the students to utilise the central library as a sanctuary of knowledge and wisdom and not just for academic excellence but for broadening their perspective on life, values, and nation-building.

  • As the central library is dedicated in the name of Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar, he called on the institution to pledge to uphold the values he stood for and to let this institution be a symbol of national unity, intellectual growth, and the relentless pursuit of excellence. He hoped that this central library would stand as a testament to the power of knowledge, the strength of unity, and the boundless potential of young minds.

  • Vice chancellor, International University, Nagaland, Prof. Subhram Rajkhowa, in his progress report, conveyed that in 2024, with the assent of the state governor, the institution was renamed as the International University, Nagaland, marking a significant shift towards offering regular, campus-based higher education.

  • This transition, he expounded, was not merely a change in nomenclature but a visionary transformation aimed at establishing the university as a centre for excellence in professional and vocational education.

  • “The introduction of full-time academic programmes across key disciplines has strengthened our mission to create an ecosystem where education translates into employment and entrepreneurship. Under its new identity as the International University, Nagaland, the institution has restructured its academic framework to align with contemporary demands,” he underlined.

  • With a commitment to employment and entrepreneurship, he emphasised that the key pillar of their vision was to ensure that every student who graduates from International University, Nagaland, is either employed in a reputable organisation or equipped with the necessary skills to start their own enterprise.

  • To achieve this objective, the university he highlighted has undertaken several initiatives, which include industry collaborations; entrepreneurship incubation centre; vocational training hubs; and skill-based certification programmes by introducing short-term certificate and diploma courses in collaboration with NSDC (National Skill Development Corporation) and other skill development agencies.

  • “Through these initiatives, the university aims to bridge the gap between education and employment, ensuring that our graduates are industry-ready and future-proof,” he affirmed.

  • On infrastructure development and the role of the central library, he said the library is envisioned as a state-of-the-art knowledge hub, providing access to over 20,000 books, research papers, and digital resources; e-learning facilities with AI-enabled learning tools; dedicated study areas for law, health sciences, and business studies; and collaboration spaces for research and academic discourse.

  • To him, this central library will serve as the intellectual nerve centre of the university, fostering a culture of reading, research, and lifelong learning.

  • Sharing on future aspirations and vision, he asserted that the International University, Nagaland, aspires to become a leading institution in vocational and professional education, not just in Nagaland but across India.

  • The roadmap includes the establishment of a research and innovation centre to drive breakthroughs in healthcare, legal studies, and environmental sustainability; international collaborations with universities and research institutions for knowledge exchange and global exposure; expansion of medical and paramedical courses with advanced laboratories and hospital tie-ups; and digital transformation through smart classrooms and AI-driven learning models.

  • In the presidential address by Dr. Priyaranjan Trivedi, founder chancellor of the university, while lauding the state government and the leaders for their prompt response to the university’s needs and proposal, he said this library is envisioned to be a centre of excellence, housing books on emerging subjects from around the world.

  • ‘Over 1000 books authored, edited and published under my leadership are part of this collection. This initiative reflects our commitment to equipping students and researchers with cutting-edge knowledge and global perspectives. The total number of books in the Central Library has exceeded 15,000. The number will soon reach up to 50,000,’ he stated.

  • Chancellor of the University Dr. S.N. Pandey, reflecting on his journey with the institution, believed that education must integrate scientific advancements with traditional wisdom to create a well-rounded and socially responsible generation of scholars and professionals.

  • With his association with the Government of India, under the aegis of the Central Council for Research in Yoga and Naturopathy (CCRYN) for more than 27 years, he maintained that under his leadership, the university has championed numerous initiatives in higher education, vocational training, skill development, and multi-disciplinary research.

  • “As we step into a new era of academic excellence, this library will serve as a foundation for intellectual empowerment, research exploration, and the dissemination of knowledge,” he conveyed.
