G-Sports Mokokchung wins 3rd SYU Open Futsal Tournament

G-Sports Mokokchung, along with organisers and others, after their 4-2 victory over Ignite in the final of the 3rd SYU Open Futsal Tournament at Mojabi Futsal Turf in Mokokchung on April 30.


  • MOKOKCHUNG — G-Sports Mokokchung won the 3rd SYU Open Futsal Tournament with a 4-2 victory over Ignite in the final held at Mojabi Futsal Turf, Salangtem Ward, Mokokchung, on April 30.

  • The final kicked off with Ignite taking an early lead through Kevi’s strike. Awang equalised within minutes, levelling the score at 1-1.

  • Ignite regained the advantage when Tongpang fired home to make it 2-1. However, Theja turned the tide with two goals, making it 3-2 in G-Sports' favour. In the closing moments, Bapan delivered the decisive blow, sealing a 4-2 win.

  • The champions walked away with a cash prize of INR 60,000 and certificates, while runners-up Ignite received INR 40,000 and certificates. Chargers FC secured the third spot, earning INR 10,000 and citations.

  • Imnasunep of G-Sports was named Best Goalkeeper. Yanger of Sunday People and Tejasetuo of G-Sports shared the Highest Goal Scorer title with nine goals each. Sentimenba Jamir of Sunday People was awarded Most Promising Player. Lumpetsing of G-Sports was crowned Player of the Tournament, and Tuli United was honoured as the Best Disciplined Team.

  • The closing ceremony was attended by Tizhisie Pojar, SDPO Mokokchung, as the guest of honour.

  • In his address, Pojar described the sport as a conduit for passion, pushing players beyond their limits, and highlighted football’s broader impact, from promoting physical fitness to steering youth away from societal pitfalls such as addiction, drug abuse, and alcoholism.

  • “Football goes beyond the field, fostering personal growth and societal good,” he said.

  • Urging players to pursue their sporting dreams with dedication, he stated that a star isn’t born overnight and that it takes years of hard work, discipline, and resilience to hone one’s skills. Pojar also emphasised the enduring lessons of sport: humility and a never-give-up attitude, even in the face of defeat.

  • The tournament was organised by the Salangtem Youth Union (SYU) under the aegis of the Mokokchung District Football Association (MDFA), powered by Nagaland Minerals & Mines as official partners.
