DIMAPUR — Following allegations of large-scale corruption in the construction of Pungren-Mimi to Fakim road under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) Phase VIII, the Fakim Village Students’ Union (FVSU) has backed the whistleblower, Tsumongthong Yim.
According to documents obtained by the whistleblower under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, the 20 km project—estimated at INR 727.12 lakh for construction and INR 36.46 lakh for maintenance—was awarded to Hexad Syndicate in March 2012.
Although the contractor reportedly received INR 727.06 lakh after the project was declared complete, on-ground verification by villagers indicated that little to no substantive work had been carried out.

The FVSU condemned the alleged irregularities, describing them as a “blatant example of corruption,” and demanded immediate action from Nagaland government.
It called for a thorough probe into the matter and urged strict action against the contractor and officials involved.
It further demanded that the authorities invoke provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, prosecute those responsible, and recover misappropriated funds.
The union also urged the government to ensure the project is completed in line with the original plan so that the people of Fakim and adjoining villages—including Penkim, Thrüntsuvong, Tsundang, Sangtsong and Vongtsuvong—receive the road connectivity promised to them.
“We commend Mr. TsumongthongYim for his courage and determination in pursuing justice despite facing all the challenges. We stand by him and demand that the authorities take his allegations seriously,” the union stated.
