Four educators received the Kohima District Teachers’ Award 2026 as colleges also marked Teachers’ Day.
DIMAPUR — Four educators were honoured with the Kohima District Teachers' Award 2026 at a ceremony organised by the Office of the District Education Officer (DEO), Kohima, at the Capital Convention Centre, New Secretariat, Kohima, on Thursday.
The awardees were Dr. Kikruneinuo Kuotsu, Graduate Teacher (GT), GHS Chandmari; Khriengusano Peseyie, Assistant Teacher (Tenyidie), Baptist Mission School, Jotsoma; Akali Aye, Headmistress, Regimental School, 4th NAP, Thizama; and Thejazelie Tase, Graduate Teacher (GT), GHS Nerhema Model.
According to an update, the event was organised to recognise educators from across the district for their dedication and service to school education.
Dr. Pritpal Kaur, DIGP (CID), Police Headquarters, Kohima, attended the programme as the special guest. In her address, she lauded the contributions of teachers in mentoring youth, instilling discipline and building the foundation of society.
Speaking on behalf of the recipients, awardee Akali Aye expressed gratitude to the department and school communities for the recognition and support throughout their teaching careers.

Teachers’ Day celebrated
Meanwhile, Teachers’ Day celebrations were held in advance at Kohima College, Kohima, and City Law College, Dimapur, on Thursday.
Kohima College organised a programme at the college courtyard, bringing together students and faculty to honour teachers for their guidance, dedication and contribution to shaping students’ lives.
Delivering the welcome address, Dr. Vitsosie Vüprü, Principal of Kohima College, extended Teachers’ Day greetings and described teachers as the “changemakers of our life.” He thanked the students for organising the celebration and stressed the importance of teachers’ expertise and presence in the classroom.
Speaking on behalf of the students, Wati Lkr (GS), said teachers mould students’ lives and often recognise their potential even when they fail to see it themselves.
Referring to the words of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan and Henry Adams, he highlighted the lasting influence of teachers.
Speaking on behalf of the teachers, Dr. Theyiesinuo Keditsu, Assistant Professor, English department, reflected on the responsibilities and challenges of teaching. She reminded the gathering that teachers are human, with flaws and limitations, and that educators too must remain willing to learn.
In Dimapur, the City Law College Students’ Union organised a Teachers’ Day celebration at the college Moot Court hall on the theme “Beyond the books”, honouring the dedication and contribution of teachers.
