Former MLA Nungsangyapang Aier, known for his contributions to Nagaland’s political and community life, passed away at 74 after a prolonged illness.

MOKOKCHUNG — Former Nagaland legislator Nungsangyapang Aier passed away on Friday morning at the age of 74 after a prolonged illness.
A funeral memorial service was held at his residence in Aongza Ward, Mokokchung, before his mortal remains were taken to his native village, Mopungchuket, for the final rites. He is survived by his son.
Born on October 24, 1950, Aier completed his schooling in Mokokchung and graduated from Shillong College in 1982. The following year, he joined the Government of Nagaland as an Inspector in the Department of Weights and Measures.

He resigned from government service to enter politics and contested the Nagaland Legislative Assembly elections four times from the 23 Impur Assembly Constituency, securing victories in 2003 and 2008.
A sports enthusiast and active student leader, Aier represented Nagaland and the Northeast in several national football tournaments and held leadership positions in various youth and student organisations.
Over the decades, Aier held key roles in political parties, student unions, and social organisations, contributing significantly to public and community service.
