Former MLA Dr. Longrineken, who represented Jangpetkong Assembly constituency, died of cardiac arrest at 58; funeral held in Chümoukedima.

DIMAPUR — Former MLA from 29 Jangpetkong Assembly constituency, Dr. Longrineken, died of what was described as cardiac arrest on March 7. He was 58. He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
Dr. Longrineken, who also served as Advisor for National Highways, Treasuries and Accounts, was laid to rest at Naga Cemetery in Dimapur following a funeral service held at Aoyim village in Chümoukedima on Sunday.
During the funeral service, short speeches were delivered by family members and representatives from Jangpetkong Senso Mungdang, Aoyim Village Council, Khar Senso Telongjem, and others.

Amid reports circulating on social media claiming that Dr. Longrineken had died by suicide, Aoyim Village Council chairman Imlinuken, while speaking to media persons, clarified that the former MLA died of cardiac arrest.

The chairman said that he had received news of Dr. Longrineken’s demise at around 9 pm on March 7 and immediately rushed to the residence. According to family members, Dr. Longrineken suffered a sudden cardiac arrest and passed away.
He added that this was the official information shared with them by the family.
Imlinuken further said that family members mentioned Dr. Longrineken had been unwell for a few days prior to his death.
Regarding the burial arrangements, he said that the body was laid to rest in Dimapur as one of the deceased’s children was in Delhi and could only arrive around 12.30 pm on Sunday.
Due to the delay, it was not feasible to take the body back to his native village, and the family decided to conduct the burial at the Naga Cemetery in Dimapur.
Electoral history
Dr. Longrineken was born on June 8, 1967, at Khar village in Mokokchung district. He first contested the Nagaland Legislative Assembly election in 2008 on a Naga People’s Front (NPF) ticket but lost to I Imkong of the Indian National Congress (INC) by a margin of 2,311 votes.
In the 2013 general election, he secured his first victory on an NPF ticket, polling 3,117 votes.
He was re-elected in the 2018 general election from 29 Jangpetkong Assembly constituency on a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket, securing 3,615 votes.
However, in the 2023 general election, he contested on a Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) ticket, securing 777 votes, and lost to Temjenmenba of the NDPP, who polled 6,238 votes.
