Mokokchung, March 22 (EMN): A six-day football coaching clinic organised by Marepkong Youth Association (MYA) got underway at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung on Monday.
Officials from MYA disclosed that two coaches from Nagaland Football Coaches Association, Diethozotuo Meya, coach from Life Sports Football Club, a D certificate holder NFCA member and Zakietuolie Khro, coach from Kohima Eagle’s FC and information and publicity secretary, NFCA will be coaching more than 40 enthusiastic football players.
They added that the clinic is a follow-up programme of MYA, after successfully hosting the second edition of Mokokchung inter-ward football tournament.
“We asked the participating teams of the Mokokchung inter-ward football tournament to send two players from each team but the response was more overwhelming than we expected. Players who want to join the clinic have increased to nearly double,” said Talinungsang Longkumer, information secretary, organising committee.
He added that most of the younger players are not counted in the first eleven players because most of the opportunities are given to the senior players; they have to wait in the substitution bench during the tournament.
“The young players have the passion to play and in their burning desire to exhibit their talents in the pitch, their great enthusiasm for football is what drove us to organise this clinic to polish their skills and groom their innate talents,” Longkumer said.
Officials of MYA also observed that there was a sudden and sharp decline in quality footballers from the district over the years.
“We believe and hope by providing a platform to the young football talents to exhibit their skills and grooming their weakness through football coaching clinics will improve them to become better players,” the officials disclosed.Caption: Coach from NFCA giving football tips during the six-day football coaching clinic at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung on Monday.
