DIMAPUR — The first phase of the seven-day training for Civil Defence wardens and volunteers held across various districts in Nagaland culminated on November 24.


The training programme was organised by the Department of Home Guards, Civil Defence and State Disaster Response Force, Nagaland, a DIPR report stated.


The programme aims to empower and strengthen communities, equipping them with the essential skills and knowledge needed to save lives, minimise damage to property, and maintain the morale and continuity of essential services during emergencies like hostile attacks or natural disaster.

This involves protecting citizens and infrastructure through prevention, preparedness, timely response and recovery efforts.

 

Kohima: The closing programme of the training for Civil Defence wardens and volunteers was held at the conference hall of the District Commandant Office, Home Guards, Civil Defence & SDRF, Kohima.


The programme marked the culmination of an intensive week-long training that involved 200 trainees, focusing on disaster preparedness, emergency response, community safety and resilience-building.


Over the course of the training, participants were equipped with essential skills in incident management, fire safety, first aid, search and rescue operations and various mitigation measures aimed at enhancing their capacity to respond effectively to both natural and man-made disasters.

 

Peren: The week-long training programme culminated at Town Hall, Peren , where Additional Deputy Commissioner of Peren, D Robin highlighted the importance of preparedness for capacity building, timely respond and community based support during the incident such as earthquake, landslide and other natural calamities. The ADC encouraged the participants to be well prepared to face and respond immediately as and when required.

 

Mokokchung: The culmination programme was held at Town Hall, Mokokchung, where Neithozo Theunuo, EAC, in his closing remarks, congratulated the trainees and expressed gratitude to the HG, CD, and SDRF for their unwavering dedication and service.


The EAC emphasised the critical role of wardens and volunteers during war times and emergencies, serving as a pillar of strength for communities in distress. He highlighted the government's formal recognition of the vital role performed by CD wardens and volunteers, mentioning the official issuance of ID cards and certificates as a testament to their valued contributions.


Furthermore, Neithozo encouraged the participants to share their valuable experiences and insights gained during their training. He concluded his address by urging volunteers to return for future training sessions, emphasising the necessity of continuous up skilling to effectively meet the evolving challenges of disaster management and civil defence.


Assamwati, council chairman of Chungtia village and representative of the trainees also shared insights and positive feedback regarding the training.


The programme concluded with a vote of thanks presented by Lanutemjen, Company Commander, HG, CD & SDRF/CD Deputy Controller, Mokokchung.


2nd phase training underway in Kiphire

 

The second phase of Civil Defence wardens and volunteers’ training commenced at Hopongkyu Memorial Hall, Kiphire, on Tuesday.

 

In his address, EAC of Kiphire, Zavito Ltu, spoke on the importance of covering essential skills in disasters response, first aid, rescue techniques, fire fighting and community safety to perform rescue operations competency during the actual occurrence of disasters at any eventualities in the district, a DIPR report stated.

 

The official also encouraged the wardens, volunteers, SDRF personnel and trainees to take advantages of the week long training programmes and for management of equipments to be used and ready to face any disasters or any other eventualities for the safety of the public and appealed to be an ambassador of Kiphire district.

 

In the first phase of the training, 152 local trainees successfully completed their training, while in the second phase, 150 local trainees turned up, with women trainees outnumbering their male counterparts.

 

The opening remark was delivered by District Commandant of Kiphire, Tokashe Sema, followed by self introduction of the trainees.
