Civil Defence Warden and Volunteer training concluded in Wokha and Mokokchung, strengthening disaster preparedness across both districts.

WOKHA/MOKOKCHUNG — Week-long Civil Defence Warden and volunteer training programmes, organised by the Department of Home Guards, Civil Defence and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), concluded on Monday in Wokha and Mokokchung districts. It had commenced on November 18.
Wokha: In Wokha, the training was at Tiyi Hall and brought together 360 Civil Defence volunteers from across the district, comprising both men and women aged between 18 and 45 years.
The training was led by Company Commander Echung Konyak S and Platoon Commander Mhonyamo, supported by SDRF personnel in Wokha. At the closing ceremony, participants were awarded certificates and training materials in recognition of their successful completion of the course.
Over the seven days, volunteers underwent intensive sessions on disaster preparedness and response. The curriculum included the history, objectives and organisational structure of Civil Defence, disaster mitigation and modern defence challenges.

Practical modules covered rescue principles, knotting techniques, fire behaviour and extinguishing methods, as well as handling fire extinguishers and rescue equipment. Demonstrations were also conducted on entering damaged buildings safely.
Trainees further learnt about building collapses, site surveys, and stages of rescue operations. First aid formed a major component of the programme, with lessons on CPR, artificial respiration, and management of shock, wounds, fractures, burns, strokes and heart attacks. Volunteers practised applying bandages and slings and using stretchers to transport injured persons.
Speaking at the valedictory function, the company commander commended the participants for their discipline and eagerness to learn. He said the purpose of the training extended beyond certificates and urged volunteers to make meaningful use of their skills for the benefit of society. He expressed confidence that the trained volunteers would strengthen Wokha’s resilience and capacity to respond effectively during emergencies.
The platoon commander extended appreciation to the deputy commissioner, participants, instructors and the entire team for their dedication throughout the programme. He also acknowledged the support of various colony councils in ensuring the successful conduct of the training.
Mokokchung: A total of 360 Civil Defence volunteers and wardens took part in the trainings that took place in Mokokchung Sadar, Tuli sub-division, and Mangkolemba sub-division.
The valedictory function for Mokokchung Sadar was held at Town Hall and was attended by Neithozo Theuno, extra assistant commissioner (EAC), Mokokchung Headquarters.
In his address, he commended the participants for their dedication and successful completion of the rigorous course, describing the training as a crucial step toward bolstering disaster preparedness across the district.
He expressed firm belief that the newly trained volunteers would serve as an effective first-response force during emergencies and called upon the concerned authorities to ensure prompt and coordinated action whenever disaster strikes.
Lanutemjen, company commander of Home Guards and Civil Defence and State Disaster Response Force and deputy controller of Civil Defence, Mokokchung, congratulated all trainees for completing the intensive seven-day schedule. He expressed gratitude to village councils and ward authorities for motivating young people to enrol, emphasising that such training is essential in enhancing community resilience against natural and man-made calamities.
Representing the trainees, Assamwati, chairman of Chungtia Village Council, shared positive feedback, highlighting the practical skills acquired and the confidence gained through the hands-on sessions.
