DIMAPUR — Multiple educational institutions across Nagaland organised various academic, cultural, and awareness programmes recently.
Fazl Ali College: Additional Secretary of Higher and Technical Education Sentiyanger Pongen, accompanied by Nuhuta Tetseo, Sub-Divisional Officer of the Engineering Wing under Higher Education, visited Fazl Ali College in Mokokchung on May 15 as part of the inspection of Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (PM-USHA) projects of government colleges in Nagaland.
According to an update, a brief interactive session was arranged with the teaching and non-teaching faculty of the college at the conference hall.
Dr. I Wati Imchen, Principal of Fazl Ali College, highlighted the issues and challenges of the college, which demand more resources, manpower, and responsibilities under NEP 2020.

He requested the department to consider a roadmap for NEP 2020 at the state level, as it necessitates systematic changes to meet its requirements, and appealed to look into the institutional requirements so as to meaningfully and efficiently contribute to the academic field and society in general. The teaching faculty also highlighted their grievances and concerns.
Pongen assured them that he would look into matters pertaining to the needs of the institution, which were also the common concerns of government colleges across Nagaland.
He encouraged the faculty to come forth with their advice and suggestions for the betterment of not only the institution but the department in general.
NEISSR: The North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR), Peace Centre, Chümoukedima, organised two awareness programmes on anti-ragging and the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan on May 15.
The anti-ragging awareness programme was organised by the IQAC cell.
Delivering a speech as the resource person, Vizosü Kikhi, Assistant Professor at NEISSR, spoke extensively on the meaning, forms, impact, and legal consequences of ragging.
Referring to the "UGC Regulations on Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions, 2009", he explained the disciplinary and legal actions that may be initiated against individuals found involved in ragging activities.
He further stated that NEISSR has maintained a peaceful, inclusive, and friendly campus atmosphere where no incidents of ragging have been reported so far. Stating the importance of positive senior-junior relationships, he encouraged seniors to act as mentors, guides, and role models for juniors and freshers.
Earlier in the day, the NSS unit of NEISSR organised a programme on the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan along with a pledge-taking ceremony.
Special speaker Dr. Barnic Rajianlung Gangmei, Assistant Professor at NEISSR, delivered an address on the significance of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. He explained the distinction between drugs and medicine and elaborated on the harmful impact of substance abuse on individuals, families, educational institutions, and society at large.
Dr. Gangmei observed that substance abuse has emerged as one of the major social challenges affecting contemporary society and emphasised the need for collective responsibility, awareness, and active community participation in addressing the issue.
Sharing personal experiences and observations, he encouraged participants to remain vigilant and cautious, noting that addiction often begins with seemingly minor habits and gradually develops into serious dependency.
The pledge-taking ceremony was conducted by Aziya K Yimchunger.
Surolok Music College: Surolok Music College, Dimapur, observed the 165th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore on May 10.
The welcome address was delivered by Animesh Roychowdhury, Principal of Surolok Music College, who highlighted the timeless contributions of Rabindranath Tagore towards literature, music, art, and humanity.
The event also featured a speech by Rohit Chakraborty, Education Secretary of EDUCEN, who spoke on the relevance of Tagore’s ideals and cultural legacy in contemporary society.
The cultural segment included dance performances by students Debjani Dey, Pallabi Dhar, Mohua Dey, Priya Das, Mandini Dey, Priyangshi Kundu, Ayushi Sarkar, Kriti, Arpita Paul, and Depandita Dey.
Musical performances were presented by Aprita, Arpita Paul, Tanusree Kundu, Anamika, Avinash Roy Chowdhury, Shrehodeep Malakar, and Priya Das, who presented Rabindra Sangeet and other musical presentations.
The recitation segment was performed by Swaraj Chakraborty, General Secretary of EDUCEN; Anshumaan Roy Chowdhury, a student of Surolok Music College; and Ankur Sharma Biswas, Vice-President of EDUCEN.
The programme was hosted by Angshik Sharma Biswas, President of EDUCEN. More than 50 attendees were present during the celebration.
