DIMAPUR — The Department of Labour, in collaboration with the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Regional Office, Guwahati, will be conducting an awareness programme on the Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) Scheme, along with a free medical health camp and registration drive, on August 12 at 11 am at Hotel Acacia in Dimapur.


A DIPR report stated that the ESI Scheme is a medical insurance administered by the ESIC under the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India.


It is an integrated measure of social insurance embodied in the Employees’ State Insurance Act and is designed to protect employees, as defined in the Employees’ State Insurance Act 1948, against the impact of sickness, maternity, disablement, and death due to employment injury and to provide medical care to insured persons and their families.

The ESI Scheme applies to employees in factories and other establishments, such as road transport, hotels, restaurants, cinemas, newspapers, shops, and educational or medical institutions, where 10 or more persons are employed and drawing wages up to INR 21,000 per month.


The proprietor/employer of the organisations, unions, establishments, or institutions in Dimapur, Chümoukedima, and Niuland districts have been requested to attend the awareness programme along with two or more employee/worker representatives. Further, a help desk registration service will be made available for the registration of establishments and employees.


The documents required for the registration of establishments include the employer’s PAN card, Aadhaar card, establishment’s licence certificate, an Aadhaar-registered mobile number for OTPs, and the employer’s or establishment’s bank details. For the registration of employees, the necessary documents are the employee’s Aadhaar card and bank details.
