ENPO has expressed gratitude on behalf of the people of Eastern Nagaland following the historic passage of the Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority (FNTA) Bill by the Nagaland Legislative Assembly
DIMAPUR — The Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO) has expressed gratitude on behalf of the people of Eastern Nagaland following the historic passage of the Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority (FNTA) Bill, 2026, by the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) on Friday.
In a press communique dated September 3 (received here on Saturday), the ENPO acknowledged that “the FNTA is within the State of Nagaland with Legislative, Executive and Financial Autonomy as envisaged in the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) signed on 5th February, 2026 between the Government of India, Government of Nagaland and ENPO”.
Lauding the central leadership, the ENPO expressed profound gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Home Minister Amit Shah. It also thanked MHA Fact-Finding Committee convenor A.K. Mishra, then Advisor (North East), MHA, and several other central and state officials.
The ENPO thanked Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, who was leading the state when the statehood movement started in 2010, before it culminated in the passing of FNTA Bill. “His continuous support to uplift the lower section of the State (Eastern Nagas) is highly acknowledged and shall be recorded in the golden history of ENPO. His commitment stood unwavering ever since the ENPO approached him on 23rd August, 2024, requesting his support in sending the comments of the State Government on FNTA till the historic signing of the MoA on 5th February, 2026, and then the subsequent passing of the FNTA Bill, 2026, on 3rd September, 2026. The ENPO look forward for his continuous support and guidance on the way forward action plan,” read the press release.

It went on to express gratitude to Rajya Sabha MP S. Phangnon Konyak, Lok Sabha MP S. Supongmeren Jamir, Deputy Chief Ministers-- T.R. Zeliang and Y. Patton--, by the Eastern Nagaland Legislators Union (ENLU), legislators, bureaucrats and officials for their support. It also appreciated eight Tribal Hohos of Nagaland-- Angami, Sumi, Ao, Lotha, Chakhasang, Rengma, Zeliangrong and Pochury--for their continued support and cooperation.
Dedicating the historic moment to sacrifices rendered by all leaders in the past, the present ENPO leadership said it was a collective effort.
Terming the passing of the FNTA Bill as “a 2nd step towards many obstacles in future”, the ENPO has appealed “to all sections of the people to stand committed as rightful thinking citizens upholding integrity and responsibilities towards our shared common goal”.
It also urged the Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India, and the Government of Nagaland to support and guide the FNTA in its future endeavours.
