Educational institutions and student unions in Nagaland celebrated Teachers' Day on September 5.

DIMAPUR — Educational institutions, both government and private, and student unions celebrated Teachers' Day on September 5, by organising programmes in their respective schools and colleges.
NEISSR: The North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR), Chümoukedima, celebrated Teachers’ Day 2025 at Bishop Abraham Memorial Hall on the theme ‘Transforming leadership.’
The highlight of the event was a keynote address delivered by Dr. Fr. Anto, Principal of NEISSR, who emphasised the enduring impact of educators and the responsibility they hold in shaping a just and compassionate society, an update from NEISSR stated.
Drawing inspiration from the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, Dr. Fr. Anto described Him as the greatest teacher of all time, one who led not from authority, but through service, compassion, and love.

He also paid tribute to Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, whose legacy reminds the nation that teachers should be the “best minds,” and invoked the wisdom of Mahatma Gandhi and Mother Teresa, who both advocated for education that transforms hearts and communities.
GHSS Phek: Government HSS Phek celebrated Teachers’ Day at Town Hall Phek on the theme ‘Inspiring the next generation of learners.’
Addressing the event, Senior Principal of GHSS Phek, Kumar Uma Shankar, who spoke on the significance of teachers' Day, encouraged the teachers to be proud of being teachers as builders of the nation, a DIPR report stated.
Desi dance, entertainment and presentation of special song were the highlights of the celebration programme. GHSS Phek's Science teacher, Kezivi, was honoured with a meritorious award for his outstanding dedication to teaching.
Shekinah School: Shekinah School, Chümoukedima, celebrated Teacher’s Day with love and appreciation to teachers for their selfless service rendered towards the well-being of the students.
Speaking at the occasion, Fr. GL Khing appreciated and congratulated the teachers for choosing the teaching profession with the dream of building a better Nagaland. He stated, “Education of the mind and heart is necessary. Failure to combine both will only be a wasted education,” the school stated in an update.

He further encouraged the teachers to combine both elements in their teaching and training of students.
Pranab Vidyapith HSS: Pranab Vidyapith Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, celebrated Teacher’s Day with much enthusiasm and reverence over two days – on September 4 by the primary section, and on September 5 by secondary and higher secondary sections – to mark the 138th birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.
The celebration witnessed the participation of over a thousand students and 120 teaching and non-teaching staff members. The programme began with Principal Monoj Bhattacharjee accompanied by others offering floral tributes and garlanding to the portrait of Dr. Radhakrishnan.
The event concluded with blessings from Swami Chinmoyanandaji, the chairman of the school and a vibrant cultural programme presented by the students, showcasing their talents through songs, dances, and skits.
Akhen GPS Meluri: Assam Rifles celebrated Teachers’ Day with teachers, students, and community members of Akhen Government Primary School, Meluri. The event witnessed the participation of 19 children, three teachers, three school management members, and nine members of the village council.
The celebration included distribution of chocolates and refreshments to the students, along with small gifts presented to the teachers as a token of respect and gratitude for their dedicated service to the children, a defence release stated.

The village council and school authorities expressed their heartfelt appreciation to Assam Rifles for their unwavering support and commitment to the uplift of society.
LSUN: The Liangmai Students’ Union Nagaland (LSUN) organised a combined Teachers’ Day-cum-cultural day at Tening town hall on the theme ‘Honouring wisdom, celebrating culture,’ with ADC Tening, K Furhesie Nyuwi, as the special guest. In his address, the special guest highlighted the invaluable role of teachers in shaping society and encouraged students to uphold their cultural roots while striving for excellence in education, an update stated.
The programme began with an invocation by Rev. Wichampau Nchang, executive secretary of Liangmai Baptist Association (LBA), followed by greetings from Maisithuibo, president of LSUN.
A series of performances and speeches marked the celebration, including a special song from St. Francis de School, Tening, speech on behalf of teachers by the Principal of GHSS Tening, and short speeches from students representing SFS, Zeliangrong Heraka School, Baptist High School and GHSS Tening.
Meanwhile, Ram Janaki HSS, Dimapur, also celebrated Teachers’ Day.
