DIMAPUR — Nagaland joined the rest of the country in celebrating Teachers' Day, with the Education department and various educational institutions across different districts marking the occasion.
Mokokchung: The 64th Teachers’ Day celebration-cum-felicitation of awardees took place at the District Education Office, Mokokchung, where four teachers were conferred with the District Teacher’s Award 2025 in recognition of their meritorious service towards humanity.
The awardees are Dr. Mereninla Panthy Jamir, PGT at GHSS Tuli; I Tsukjempokba, GT at Mayangnokcha GHSS; Imkumzuba, Head Teacher at GMS Nokpu; and Alemyanger Aier, Teacher In-charge at GPS Changtongya Yimsen.
In his address, Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, Ajit Kumar Verma, asserted that no monetary value can compare teachers who shape average students into extraordinary successful individuals.
Expressing his appreciation, he lauded the dedication and responsibility of teachers, particularly those serving in remote parts of the district who strive to nurture students into responsible citizens. Verma described teachers as the backbone and foundation of society, aligning their role with a divine and spiritual calling given the nature of their job.
Highlighting the critical role of teachers in development, Verma noted that while infrastructure can be built in various capacities, the mindset, values, and knowledge imparted by educators are unparalleled and irreplaceable.
Sentinenla, District Education Officer (DEO) Mokokchung, described the occasion as not just a celebration but an opportunity to reflect on teachers’ roles as nation builders.
“Our students need teachers who ignite curiosity, teachers who guide them with patience and empathy,” she said, urging the teachers the need for innovative and empathetic teaching approaches. (Our Correspondent)
Wokha: The Education department, Wokha, organised a commemorative programme at VDB Hall, Wokha, with SDO Wokha, Echungbemo Erui as the special guest. In his address, the special guest emphasised the pivotal role of teachers in shaping society, particularly through grassroots interventions in early education, a DIPR report stated.
Highlighting the transformative power of education, Erui noted that teachers are not merely instructors but nation-builders who mould character, instil values, and guide future generations toward responsible citizenship.
The programme began with a welcome address by DEO Gwayhunle Tep, who acknowledged the tireless efforts of teachers and reaffirmed the department’s commitment to supporting quality education. A special prayer for teachers was offered by Rev. Fr. Stephen Chazhsseril.
As part of the event, four teachers were honoured with awards for their exemplary service. The awardees are Khonzani Tsanglao, PGT, GHSS Wokha; Lipenthung Odyuo, GT of GPS Phiro; Y Benchumo Shitio, PT of GMS Okotso; and L Mhaden Jungio, assistant teacher at Regimental School, DEF Wokha.
Mon: The celebration was held at Town Council Hall, Mon, on the theme ‘Empowering educators for a progressive future.’
Deputy Commissioner of Mon, Wennyei Konyak, the special guest, in his address said that the day is a special occasion to express gratitude and appreciation to teachers for their tireless effort in shaping the mind and heart of our students.
“A teacher is not somebody who teaches in the class but apart from teaching, teachers also have some scope, aims and contribute a lot to nation building. Without teachers, our nation will not grow,” the DC said.
T Limawapang, PGT at GHSS Mon, speaking on behalf of the awardees, urged teachers to reaffirm their commitment to the teaching profession. Kemya T Konyak of St. Mary’s School spoke on the significance of Teachers’ Day.
The following teachers were honoured with the District Award: T Limawapang, PGT at GHSS Mon; S. Tingjei, Primary Teacher at GPS Longting; Omjay Kumar, Assistant Teacher at Sacred Heart School; and C Wannyei Assistant Teacher at Christ King High School.
Shamator: Shamator district celebrated Teacher's Day with different schools including GMS Y Anner and Christian High School, Shamator. The celebration at GMS Y Anner was led by L Mukam Yimkhiung, chairman of the School Management Committee (SMC).
Highlights of the celebration at Christian High School included presentation of songs, choreography, dances, and traditional cultural display. Asst. Teacher Mukam thanked the children for their love and for making the programme a success.
Tseminyu: Tseminyu district organised Teachers Day-cum-Teachers Award celebration at Baptist Higher Secondary School, Tseminyu New town, with ADC Tseminyu, Kikumsangla Jamir as the special guest.
Pughoboto: The combined Teachers’ Day celebration, organised by the Sub-Divisional Planning & Development Board (SDPDB) Pughoboto, was held at Pughoboto town with Dr. Sukhato A Sema, MLA, as the special guest.
In his address, the MLA paid rich tributes to teachers, describing them as the “architects and pillars of society.” Reflecting on his humble beginnings as the son of a village school teacher, he shared his educational journey through a government primary school and credited his success and personal growth to the guidance and dedication of his teachers.
