IMPHAL — A delegation from the Election Commission of India (ECI), Manipur, led by Deputy Commissioner of Bishnupur Pooja Elangbam, engaged in a productive exchange of views on electoral system and practices with senior officials from Finland’s Ministry of Justice and other key stakeholders in Helsinki.
The visit, from December 7 to the 12th, was aimed at fostering mutual learning on electoral processes and democratic governance, it was informed.
Pooja presented an overview of India’s electoral system, while Finnish officials shared insights into the country’s election management practices during the interaction which was focused on innovations in voter registration, technology use, and accessibility, informed an update.

The ECI delegation including Somaya A Shimrah, Booth Level Officer under ECI and Headmaster at ADC Ukhrul, also interacted with Demo Finland, a cooperative think tank of the country’s political parties committed to advancing democratic values, exploring strategies to strengthen participatory democracy and civic engagement.
The delegation also discussed Finland’s political history and institutional frameworks with University of Helsinki faculty at the varsity, gaining valuable perspectives on sustaining democratic traditions, it was informed.
