DIMAPUR — The Eastern Naga Students' Federation (ENSF) has expressed deep concern and condemned the assault, unlawful detention, and extortion inflicted upon two youths belonging to the Rengma community in Kangpokpi district, Manipur.
According to reported accounts, the victims, while engaged in the honest pursuit of their livelihood, were intercepted during their journey towards Imphal on the night of March 22 and in the early hours of March 23, the ENPO stated in a press release.
“They were forcibly taken to an undisclosed location, where they were subjected to intimidation, wrongful confinement, and severe mental and physical distress.
“It is further reported that the victims were coerced under duress into surrendering an exorbitant sum of money. Such acts of violence, intimidation, and exploitation constitute a gross violation of fundamental human rights and are utterly unacceptable in any civilised society,” the union stated.
The ENSF called upon the concerned authorities to immediately initiate a thorough and impartial investigation into the incident, ensure that the perpetrators are swiftly brought to justice, and take stringent measures to prevent the recurrence of such heinous acts.
“The ENSF stands in solidarity with the victims and their families and reaffirms its unwavering commitment to safeguarding the rights and well-being of the people,” it added.
