DIMAPUR — The Dimapur Rengma Students' Union (DRSU) has extended support to the stand taken by the Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) against the proposed shifting of the Government Hindi Institute, Dimapur, to the In-Service Teacher Training Institute at Medziphema under Chümoukedima district.
In a press release, the union expressed concern over the proposed relocation of the educational institution in Dimapur, which it stated has served students from different communities across Nagaland for decades.
“The DRSU believes that shifting the institute outside Dimapur would not only create unnecessary hardship for many students but would also gradually weaken the educational importance and institutional presence of Dimapur.

“Educational infrastructure established in the district over many years should be strengthened and protected rather than relocated without wider consultation and public consensus,” the union stated.
It also questioned whether all possible alternatives for improving and optimising the existing campus had been properly explored before taking such a significant decision.
“Matters concerning educational institutions and student welfare must be approached with transparency, inclusiveness and long-term public interest,” it added.
The DRSU appealed to the government to reconsider the proposed shifting of the Government Hindi Institute and retain the institute in Dimapur in the interest of the student community.
The union also urged organisations, student bodies and citizens to collectively safeguard institutions that contribute to the educational growth and accessibility of the people.
