- IMPHAL — In an
effort to reduce use of single-used plastics (SUP), the department of
Environment and Climate Change and Manipur Pollution Control Board (MPCB), in
collaboration with Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC), organised an awareness
programme on Sunday at Uripok and Khwairamband Keithel, main market in Imphal,
wherein reusable cloth bags were distributed to vendors and shoppers.
- On the other hand, the colleges are also taking up awareness
programmes in connection with the enforcement of the ban on SUP. A series of
campaigns on the theme "Elimination of single use plastics on school
campus" are also being held in the state after the state government
announced an enforcement ban of single-used plastic items in the state from
April 15 onwards.

- The member secretary of MPCB had informed all concerned that
the enforcement drive for the ban of single-used plastic items would commence
with effect from April 15, 2025, by a team comprising members from the
department of Environment and Climate Change, urban local bodies, district
panchayats, gram panchayats and Manipur Pollution Control Board, Manipur.
- The enforcement drive would cover banned plastic items
identified by the Plastic Waste Management Rules 2016 (as amended) and the
Manipur Plastic Policy 2022.
