DIMAPUR — Elaborating
that government schools have well-qualified teachers capable of delivering
quality education, the advisor of School Education and SCERT, Dr.
Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, urged the community to pursue academic studies in the
government schools in their respective places rather than opting in the urban areas
and thus save their families financially and acquire quality education.
He stated this during discussion on educational reforms and
improvements held at cultural hall in Satoi town under Zunheboto district with
representatives of civil societies and stakeholders from eleven villages under
Satoi range including government teachers, village councils, Satoi Range GBs’
Association, Satoi Range Students’ Union (SRSU) and Satoi Town Elders’ Forum on
April 7.
An update from Satoi Range GBs’ Association stated that Dr.
Yhome has emphasised the importance of both male and female students enrollment
and urged the village communities to protect government schools properties and
contribute to community welfare.
Speaking on shortage of teachers and students enrollment in
the government schools, he acknowledged a long-standing issue where civil
societies and the government have blamed each other for the lack of teachers
and students enrollment. He was of the opinion that issue on shortage of
teachers could be resolved if villages and areas enroll more students in the
government schools.
He also stated that government schools could also receive
relaxation if the communities assure to enhance number of students enrollment.
In regard to transfer of teachers, he stated that there was
no such transfer with post saying that teachers are transferred according to
the requirements of government schools.
Regarding the downgrading and closure of government school,
Dr. Yhome explained that schools are closed or downgraded due to nil enrolment.
However, he assured that if there’s an improvement of students’ enrollment, the
state government can upgrade the schools. He, therefore, urged stakeholders not
to pressure the government but have confidence in the state government’s abilities.
Also speaking during the interaction, the minister of Road
and Bridges, G Kaito Aye, praised Dr. Yhome and other officials for visiting
Satoi headquarters. He admitted that School Education department has made
certain improvement in standards and reforms across the state including rural
areas in Nagaland under Dr. Yhome’s leadership.
Aye mentioned that Satoi range faced numerous challenges due
to insurgency problems in the early stages of education reforms, which
significantly impacted education in the region. He, however, stated that
significant changes and reforms are currently underway under Chief Minister
Neiphiu Rio’s leadership. He expressed confidence that education sector would
continue to progress under Rio’s leadership particularly in the rural areas.
Aye assured support towards the Education department
initiative to rationalise teachers in Nagaland for educational reforms. He
urged the student community and stakeholders to take responsibility for
improving students’ enrollment and assured his full support for the students’
welfare.
During interaction hour, the Satoi Range GBs’ Association
(SRGBA) has requested Dr. Yhome to replace a graduate teacher at GMS Satoi, who
is retiring in April and also provide adequate number of teachers in the school.
The association also requested construction of staff quarters and other
necessary infrastructure in Satoi headquarters.
The association expressed gratitude to the advisor and the
department officials for visiting Satoi, thereby enabling the stakeholders to
address student community grievances.
Later, the advisor along with Kaito Aye visited GMS Satoi
and interacted with the teaching faculty.
The advisor was accompanied by his wife as well as several
key officials including Vikhweno Chale, joint secretary of School Education; R
Daniel Angami, under secretary of School Education; Khriesano Nagi, joint
director of School Education; Khriekuonuo Pienyu, planning officer of School
Education; Dr. Atshu, PS to advisor of School Education, and others.
