KOHIMA — Director of Youth Resources and Sports (YRS), Kethosituo Sekhose, on Saturday inaugurated the new floor extension of Don Bosco College Kohima (DBCK) as the special guest. The floor was dedicated to Catechist Philip Suosahie Dzȕvichȕ.

Addressing the inaugural session, Sekhose expressed appreciation and joy, congratulating the management, faculty, students, alumni, and every individual who contributed to making the facility a reality.

“Don Bosco institutions have long been a pillar of education and character formation in Nagaland and across the world. These institutions are not just places for academic pursuit, but nurturing grounds for values, leadership, and responsible citizenship,” he said.

He also said that the college's inspiring motto, ‘Duty & Joy,’ captures the very essence of what education should be: a joyful journey of fulfilling one's responsibilities with integrity, passion, and purpose.

“We, particularly the citizens of Kohima and Kohima village, are indebted to the Salesian family for establishing educational institutions which have shaped our young ones over the last many decades,” the director said.

Sekhose also maintained that the newly inaugurated floor is more than a physical expansion—it is a reflection of the college’s commitment to growth, to providing better infrastructure, and to creating more inclusive opportunities for learning.

Additionally, he stated that it symbolises the college's forward-looking vision—a vision that blends tradition with innovation, rootedness with progress.

He informed that the YRS department has mapped the sporting infrastructure of all schools and colleges, making it easier to propose projects. He also mentioned that, as per the chief minister's proposal, each district will soon have a standard sports ground with full amenities.

To the students, Sekhose advised them to treasure the opportunities that the institution provides, exhorting them to let "Duty & Joy” be more than a motto—let it be their way of life.

“Do your part with sincerity, and find joy in the pursuit of knowledge, service, and growth,” he added.

Rev. Fr. Joseph Pampackal SDB expressed hope that the new floor extension at Don Bosco College, Kohima, would symbolise a collective commitment to empowering Nagaland's youth through quality education, rather than just a physical expansion.

He stated informed that the floor extension is dedicated to the late Catechist Philip Suosahie Dzȕvichȕ, who provided crucial support and guidance to Don Bosco during its formative years, playing a significant role in the institution's growth.

Dr. Rosemary Dzȕvichȕ, in whose father’s memory the new floor was dedicated, said, “My father has always been a part of the Salesian family. When we were very small, probably around three or four years old, my father gave our house to the Salesian fathers, and we shifted to my grandparents' house.”

Dr. Kiyasetuo Stephen Vizo, governing body member, DBCK, also spoke on the occasion, while welcome address was delivered by Fr. Dr. Tious Varghese, Principal of DBCK.

The programme was led by Dr. Jarami Mao, Dean of Academics. The invocation prayer was offered by Fr. Dr. Xavier Mattam, Rector, and the vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Tovika Swu, Dean of Student Affairs.
