DIMAPUR — The Longleng District Task Force on Immunisation (DTFI) and District Task Force on Malaria Elimination (DTFME) held separate meetings at DPDB Hall in Longleng town under the chairmanship of the deputy commissioner (DC), M Manphai Phom, on August 29.


An update from the office of the chief medical officer (CMO), Longleng, stated that the meeting was attended by officials from the department of Health and Family Welfare, representatives from line departments, NGOs and community organisations.


At the DTFI meeting, Dr. Imtijungshi Aier, district programme officer (RCH/UIP), made a powerpoint presentation on the district immunisation performance for the period from August 2024 – July 2025, while the district immunisation officer (DIO) informed that special vaccination drives would be conducted from September 2025 with special focus on the urban areas to achieve Measles-Rubella Elimination goal by 2026.

Participating in the discussion, the DC instructed the health department to propose for a new urban sub-centre in Longleng town in the upcoming DPDB meeting to improve healthcare outreach and delivery. He also appealed to all stakeholders to motivate and mobilise the community on the importance of vaccination.


He further stressed that collective action and cooperation are vital in achieving full immunisation coverage and protecting children’s health.


At the DTFME meeting, a detailed powerpoint presentation on the activities carried out by the NVBDCP Longleng was presented by the district vector borne officer (DVBO), which was followed by discussion on measures to strengthen malaria elimination activities within the district.


Key points discussed included creating awareness among the public on the proper use of long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLIN), promoting source reduction activities such as timely discarding of stagnant water and ensuring clean surroundings, exploring construction of hatcheries for larvivorous fish to control mosquito breeding and intensifying public awareness campaigns to avoid water stagnation in localities.


The meeting concluded with a call for collective efforts from all stakeholders and the community to achieve malaria elimination in the district.
