District Planning and Development Board meetings held in Mokokchung, Peren, and Niuland focus on development, and the National Highway Act.

DIMAPUR/MOKOKCHUNG — The District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) meetings were conducted in Mokokchung, Peren, and Niuland districts on December 5 and the 6th.
Mokokchung: The Mokokchung DPDB held its meeting-cum-Advent Christmas celebration under the chairmanship of DPDB Chairman and MLA Nuklutoshi at Metsuben Resort, Chuchuyimpang village, Mokokchung, on Saturday.
Addressing the gathering, Nuklutoshi stated that Christmas, which celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ, serves as a reminder of the enduring values of love, peace, humility, and selfless service to humanity.
“The true spirit of Christmas lies not merely in celebration but in our willingness to serve one another with compassion, understanding, and unity,” he stated.
The MLA urged all members to renew their commitment to work together in harmony, uphold integrity in public life, and make meaningful contributions to the growth and progress of Mokokchung district.

Speeches were also delivered by Ao Senden General Secretary Imtipokyim and ADC and Mokokchung Municipal Council CEO Atsungba Walling, while the Christmas message was shared by Akangtemsu Yaden, youth director of Mokokchung Town Baptist Church.
Peren: The Peren DPDB meeting was held on Saturday at the DC conference hall, Peren. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Chief Minister and Peren DPDB Chairman, TR Zeliang.
According to a DIPR report, in his address, TR commended the DC of Peren for initiating various activities to develop the district headquarters and for consistently organising monthly mass social work. He also appreciated the successful conduct of the Unity Mini Hornbill Festival under the DC’s leadership.
He congratulated the organising committee of the 11th Inter-Departmental Tournament for hosting the event successfully, noting that such activities strengthen coordination and foster better relationships among departments.
Highlighting the importance of the Information and Public Relations (IPR) department, he stated that although the department may not directly undertake development works, its role in documentation is crucial.
He stated that records preserved by IPR help keep history alive and suggested that the DPRO Peren collect and compile photographs, names, and information of important figures and personalities from the district who have contributed in various capacities so that the records of the district are well-preserved for the future.
Reviewing the ongoing Unity Mini Hornbill Festival, the DC noted that the festival has showcased unity among the diverse communities of the Peren district. Highlighting a positive outcome, he said that the brand ‘Green Peren’ has gained visibility through the exhibition stalls where value-added products were displayed.
He encouraged all Agriculture and allied departments to geo-tag their products to clearly identify their place of origin and stressed the need for maintaining authentic data, regardless of the scale of production.
Niuland: The Niuland DPDB meeting was held on December 5 at the DC conference hall, Niuland, with Deputy Commissioner and Vice Chairman of DPDB Niuland Sara S Jamir chairing the meeting.
The DC said the invitation of GBs and leaders of the civil society organisations (CSOs) for the board meeting specifically was to share their views and opinions in regard to the adoption of the National Highway Act 1956 in the state.
In this regard, Akumdong, SDO PWD (NH) Dimapur, gave a detailed presentation on the adoption of the National Highway Act 1956 and its implications on Article 371(A).
Toshijungla Lemtur from White Hope Education Society (Residential School - Minority Affairs) also gave a brief presentation on the objectives and activities of the society.
The board also deliberated on the society registration of the Aghunaqa Area Students Union and the Aghunaqa Area Sports Association and agreed to forward the case to the concerned department for further necessary action.
