The DC congratulated the awardees and mentioned that out of 400 teachers, only four had been selected, all of whom were deserving of the recognition. He said the award reflected their commitment and tireless efforts to bring out the best in students.
He also highlighted that Kohima, established in 1879 as the first district and the state capital, made serving there both a privilege and a responsibility, urging teachers to set an example for others to follow.
Buchem reminded the gathering that teaching was not just a job but a calling, and he emphasised the role of empathy and compassion in shaping young minds. He said every successful individual owed their success to teachers, and he encouraged educators to adapt to the evolving journey of education with AI and technology.
He further observed that children themselves could at times be the best teachers. Quoting from Proverbs, he added that a child trained in the right way would not depart from it when older.
The DC also invited students aspiring to civil services or government service to spend a day with him in administrative work. Speaking on behalf of the awardees, Orenvungo expressed gratitude and dedicated the award to students, colleagues, and officers-in-charge for their support. He said the recognition had motivated them to step out of their comfort zones and perform even better in the future.
Meanwhile, the office of SDEO Meluri announced the names of the District-Level Teachers Award recipients for Meluri district as recommended by the district-level committee.
According to an update, Leylüsang Leyri, primary teacher at GPS Laruri, and Thimu, primary teacher at Government Middle School, Zhipu, have been selected for their exemplary service and dedication to the cause of education.
