The Directorate of Economics and Statistics holds a one-day training on price statistics in Dimapur, stressing accurate data collection for better policy planning.

DIMAPUR — The Directorate of Economics and Statistics organised a one-day training on price statistics at the Directorate Conference Hall in Kohima on July 1, which was attended by Akunu S Meyase, Secretary, Economics and Statistics.
According to an update, Meyase, in her address, stressed the importance of price statistics and their daily impact on general consumers. She mentioned that prices collected from the district level form the database for the estimation of price indices in the state, which is the most crucial stage.
She urged the data collectors to gather data from the actual sources and to provide accurate data for correct estimation. She encouraged the trainees to uphold the highest standards of workmanship and urged them to engage seriously with the training to learn the methodologies, procedures, and mechanisms involved in data collection.

Earlier, Neidilhou Keditsu, Director, in his introductory speech, mentioned that the department has developed three indices, namely the Consumer Price Index (Urban, Rural and Combined), the Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers, and the Wholesale Price Index.
He stressed the importance and uses of price indices in policy formulation and stated that the department will estimate, for the first time, the Consumer Price Index at the district level, which will promote better decentralisation of planning.
The training was attended by all the district Economics and Statistics officers (DESOs), price data collectors in both urban and rural price centres, and the directorate officials.
