Dimapur Police seize 19,760 suspected codeine cough-syrup bottles from a Marwari Patti warehouse and launch a supply-chain investigation

DIMAPUR — Dimapur Police seized 19,760 bottles of suspected codeine-based cough syrup from a warehouse at Marwari Patti on Tuesday evening, in what police described as a major drug haul.
A press release on Wednesday informed that a team from Sub-Urban Police Station, acting on ground intelligence, raided a warehouse at Jain Temple Road, Marwari Patti, on August 25.
Police said that the tenant failed to turn up despite repeated calls, following which ACP (West) authorised and supervised the opening of the locked warehouse. The search was conducted in the presence of independent local witnesses and digitally documented through the e-Sakshya platform, it added.
During the search, officers recovered 126 cartons containing the suspected cough syrup. Of these, 101 cartons contained 16,160 bottles of Bescod Cough Syrup, while 25 cartons contained 3,600 bottles of EB-DYL Cough Syrup.

Several other unaccounted pharmaceutical products were also taken into safe custody for verification, according to the police.
A suo motu case has been registered at SBN Police Station under Section 21(C) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Police said investigation is underway to identify the warehouse operators, trace the supply chain and uncover the local distribution network.
Dimapur Police appealed to the public and civil society organisations to share information on the sale of narcotic drugs with the nearest police station, assuring that the identity of informants would be kept confidential.
