Dimapur SC defeated Headhunters FC 2-1 to win the 9th Captain N Kengurüse MVC Memorial Football Tournament title in Kohima.

KOHIMA — Dimapur SC emerged as the new champions after defeating the defending champions, Headhunters FC 2-1 in the grand finale of the 9th Captain N Kengurüse MVC Memorial Football Tournament held at Indira Gandhi (IG) Stadium, Kohima, on Thursday.
The champions, Dimapur SC, walked home with a prize of INR 3 lakh, while the first runners-up, Headhunters FC, received INR 1.5 lakh.
Just three minutes into the game, Dimapur SC took the lead with a goal by Nangshang, followed by Rhitsho scoring the second goal in the 11th minute.
In the second half, Headhunters FC managed a breakthrough in the 55th minute when Haotingmang scored a goal. However, despite their efforts to find an equaliser, they were unable to do so, resulting in their defeat and loss of the title.
Tsielhoutuo Rhutso, MLA, who attended as the special guest, remarked that over the past days, incredible matches were witnessed where teams from different districts displayed true sportsmanship and discipline.

He said that it is not about who wins or loses, but players from across the state working together and shaping one dream is the true meaning of this event.
Encouraging the teams that did not reach the final, Rhutso said that this should not be the end but a new beginning. He added that engaging in sports helps prevent wrong influences. As an elected representative, he assured continued support for such opportunities to promote talented Naga youths.
Deputy Inspector General, HQ IGAR (North), SK Palande, commended the participants for demonstrating discipline and resilience throughout the tournament and encouraged them to continue their efforts beyond the event.
The closing ceremony also featured performances by the Jazz Band, Keneisenuo Sorhie, and the Tetseo Sisters.
