Supongmeren Jamir attends a review meeting with NFR officials at Maligaon, Guwahati, on October 14.

DIMAPUR — The upgradation of Dimapur Railway Station is underway and is expected to be completed by June 30, 2028, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) informed during a meeting held at Maligaon, Guwahati, on October 14.

The meeting was attended by Nagaland Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) S Supongmeren Jamir along with MPs from other north-eastern states to review ongoing railway projects in the region.

A press release issued on Thursday by the MP’s office reported NFR officials as saying that the Master Plan and Design Basis Report for both RCC and steel structures of the upgraded Dimapur station have been approved.

However, the officials highlighted several setbacks due to encroachment within the station premises—including shops, houses, dhabas, and temples—which have hampered progress.

The railway authorities appealed to the state government to intervene and resolve these issues to ensure timely completion.

During the meeting, the Railway Board also shared updates on the Molvom–Pherima railway section (14.09 km), which is targeted for commissioning by December 2026, and the Pherima–Zubza stretch (36.79 km), expected to be completed by December 2028.

The NFR further assured that development works at Shokhuvi and Molvom stations will be fully completed.

Discussions were also held regarding the introduction of passenger train services for Tuli station in Mokokchung district, with necessary groundwork identified for commencing operations on the Amguri–Tuli section.

Raising key connectivity concerns, Jamir requested the Railway Authority to consider the construction of the Dimapur–Tizit railway line and to examine the feasibility of a foothill security railway route from Dimapur via Niuland to Bhandari in Wokha district.

He also urged the NFR to reintroduce the discontinued 6 am Nagaland Express between Dimapur and Guwahati, and to install Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs) at Dimapur station.

In addition, the MP called on the authorities to advertise state-wide railway employment opportunities through proper channels for greater transparency and accessibility.
