DIMAPUR — The Dimapur Naga Students' Union (DNSU) has expressed concern over the practice of students being asked to sell badges or tokens outside their schools to recover the nominal collection meant to honour teachers.
In a press release, the union said that while it understands the nominal collection to honour the teaching community, it has come to the union’s attention that, in some cases, students are being asked to sell badges or tokens outside their schools to recover the collected amount.
This practice, especially in the current hot weather, places an unnecessary burden on students and compromises their comfort and dignity, it noted.
Stating that while DNSU fully supports meaningful celebrations to appreciate teachers, the union believes that students should not be put in situations where their well-being is at risk.

“Teachers’ Day should remain a celebration of respect and gratitude, not a source of stress or obligation for students,” it said, adding that the union respectfully appeals to school administrations to avoid assigning token-selling duties to students and to explore safer, more inclusive ways to celebrate the occasion.
DNSU also urged the education authorities to review the process of this collection to ensure that it does not unintentionally lead to hardships for students or schools.
Parents and the public have been encouraged to report any instances where students are made to sell tokens so that concerns can be addressed promptly and constructively.
